Make a World of Difference...Mentor

Mentors are given training and support in order for them to help their mentees develop the capacity and confidence to fulfill their dreams of attaining higher education. Mentors are asked to commit a minimum of six to eight hours per month with their mentee. They provide guidance, encouragement and coaching to help students meet goals and develop problem-solving techniques. Typical mentor/student activities include movies, sporting events, museum visits, concerts, and lunches together in addition to attending the mandatory programs/workshops at Operation Jump Start. Mentors also provide academic support to their students by getting involved when possible in activities such as Back-to-School nights, parent-teacher meetings, Open Houses, getting to know their students' teachers and school counselors, helping with home work, encouraging good grades, and making sure the students meet the requirements for going to college.

Mentors must be at least 24 years of age, non-smoking, and willing to commit to a long-term relationship with a young person. Take this opportunity to make a difference in a young person's future and yours!
