Make a World of Difference...VOLUNTEER!
It is the mission of Operation Jump Start to positively impact disadvantaged youth through guidance, coaching and leadership to stay in school and to broaden their life experiences along with bettering themselves through higher education.
Operation Jump Start works with the cooperation of the Long Beach Unified School District to help educate and develop the personal goals of academically promising 8th graders whose educational future may be at risk due to social or economic hardships. In our program, each student is matched with a volunteer adult mentor who has been carefully screened and trained and who can become a positive role model.
You can make a difference in the lives of students in our community by becoming a volunteer at Operation Jump Start. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from, and all are equally important. The opportunities include mentoring, office support, event planning and coordination, fundraising and public relations. In addition, our event calendar includes educational and cultural field trips for which we need adult chaperones.
Mentors meet with their matched students at least monthly throughout their years of high school, introduce them to career opportunities, involve them in new social and cultural experiences and encourage them to pursue their education beyond high school.
We are always looking for those giving individuals who are willing to assist with these tasks. If you are willing to donate your valuable skills and talents to Operation Jump Start's mission, please contact us. The only prerequisite we have for our volunteers is that they believe that our students can be successful and work towards that end.
If you have further questions, please contact our office at (562) 988-2131.
"Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."
